LIVE, Interactive Webinar Training – Sexual Health and Intimacy in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia: A Continued Commitment to Holistic Health

July 17 @ 2:00 pm 4:10 pm EDT

2 continuing education (general course) credits available

Alzheimer’s and other types of neurodegenerative diseases deeply influences a new world of challenges and changes the dynamics of relationships. Although not discussed enough, perceived sexual behaviors can be the most difficult of behaviors to handle because it can make caregivers and family members feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, and sometime frightened. This course openly explores the topic of intimacy and sexual needs for aging individuals and those with a neurodegenerative disease, as well as the motivations behind perceived sexual behaviors that are not related to sexual or intimacy needs. Through case vignettes and group discussions, attendees will learn how to appropriately respond while maintaining the person’s dignity and addressing potential medical and safety concerns.

From this workshop you will be able to:

Describe behavioral symptoms and communication challenges for those living with a neurodegenerative disease.
Differentiate the need for intimacy and touch, from perceived sexual behaviors that may be the symptom of a medical condition.
Utilize effective and respectful interventions when responding to someone with dementia who is demonstrating sexual behavior.
