In-Person Activities and Dementia Resources in NYC

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America offers a variety of dementia-friendly activities and resources in NYC. Our licensed, dementia trained social workers and other qualified staff are ready to help you wherever you are on your journey with Alzheimer’s.

Consultations with an AFA Social Worker

Starting Wednesday, October 5th, AFA’s Helpline Social Workers will be available to offer weekly in-person, one-to-one 30 minute consultations to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. These consultations will offer individualized support and assistance with planning and problem solving, resources to educational resources and supports, as well as supportive listening. Memory screenings will also be available. These 30 minute in-person sessions will be scheduled in advance every Wednesday, from 10 am to 2 pm at AFA’s Education and Resource Center, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001.

Memory Cafe Monday

You are invited to join AFA’s Helpline Social Workers for an afternoon of conversation and socialization, craft activity and light refreshments! Memory Café Mondays take place every 1st Monday of the month, from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm at AFA’s Education and Resource Center, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. In this monthly in-person group, we will engage in different seasonal activities.

Teal Room Community Classes

AFA’s Teal Room Community Classes provide a variety of in-person therapeutic programs ranging from the creative arts therapies, Broadway singer performances, chair yoga, gardening classes, and more! AFA’s Teal Room Community Classes are always FREE and open to the public. These classes are a great option for anyone looking for dementia-friendly activities in New York City.

Classes are offered in-person at AFA’s Education and Resource Center in Manhattan, located at: 322 8th Ave, 7th floor, New York, NY 10001.

Creating Dementia-Friendly Holidays

A free, in-person continuing education workshop for New York State Social Workers as well as family caregivers. Participants will gain helpful tips for creating dementia-friendly environments for the holidays and beyond, including meal times, family activities, travel, and more. Advanced registration is required.
