AFA Advanced Learning Certification Program

AFA’s Certified Comprehensive Dementia Care Provider (CDCP) is a new, national advanced learning two-year certification for professionals who serve individuals living with dementia. Participants wishing to obtain CDCP certification are required to complete five courses from the following types:

  • 1 general course
  • 2 clinical courses
  • 2 social and cultural competency courses

Courses are available to everyone and can be accessed through AFA’s Alzheimer’s & Dementia Online Academy, monthly live interactive webinars, and in-person workshops.

After fulfilling the course requirements, all participants must attend AFA’s live, interactive practicum seminar, where they will practice the skills and apply the knowledge they have learned in a small group setting, through case vignettes, role-playing and instructor-led group discussions. Two-year certification will be awarded following the completion of the seminar. Participants have one year to complete the five required courses and seminar. Biennial recertification available!

Individuals who previously earned certification as an AFA Dementia Care Partner (DCP) by completing the AFA Partners in Care: Supporting Individuals Living With Dementia (PIC) are eligible for this advanced learning certification. Completing PIC is not required to obtain CDCP certification.

All courses and the practicum seminar offer CE credits for licensed social workers and other professions which accept social work CE credits. Participants can earn up to 12 CE credits through this program.
