SUMMARY:The Family Tapestry: Navigating Relationships and Roles in Dementia Care
DESCRIPTION:*** Free In-person event *** Location: The Bristal Assisted Living at Lake Success 69 N. Service Rd.\, Lake Success\, NY 11020 \n\n\n\nGeneral course\, 2 CE credits available (free)\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Description: What a family looks like and how we feel about our family will look very different for each of us. For some\, their family can be a primary source of relationship security. For others\, their family could be a primary source of stress. Despite a family’s differences\, there is usually a shared understanding that family members rely on each other for emotional\, physical\, and economic support. However\, those experiencing greater stress or toxicity from family members may choose to seek community elsewhere. Despite all this\, when someone in the family receives a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related illness\, family members are often forced to reunite\, pull their resources together\, and figure out how to work as a team. Even the most high-functioning families often struggle to navigate the changes in dynamics and relationships when addressing the care needed for a relative. This general course aims to teach attendees about the various types of familial relationships and roles to then effectively evaluate dynamics through illustrative assessment tools such as genograms and ecomaps. These thorough assessments will help to meet a family’s overall goal of ensuring everyone works as a team to create meaningful living and quality of life for both the individual living with the illness as well as members of their care team. This in-person workshop is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions\, as well as case vignette discussions. \n\n\n\nFrom this course attendees will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nDefine familial roles and relationship dynamics.  \n\n\n\nDescribe how dementia-related illnesses can impact family dynamics.\n\n\n\nUtilize assessment tools when evaluating familial strengths and challenges.\n\n\n\nApply strategies to improve communication and collaboration among family members.\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Description\n\n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n5:00pm – 5:30pm – Dinner and brief presentation from our sponsor \n\n\n\n5:30pm – 7:40pm – Workshop (10 minute break included) \n\n\n\n\n5:30 – 5:40 – Welcome and Introductions – Course overview\, learning objectives\, and opening discussion\n\n\n\n5:40 – 6:00 – Understanding Family Dynamics – Family structures\, roles\, relationships\, and sources of support and stress\n\n\n\n6:00 – 6:20 – The Impact of Dementia on Family Relationships – Changing roles\, caregiver responsibilities\, conflict\, and emotional challenges\n\n\n\n6:20 – 6:30 – Interactive Discussion – Exploring family dynamics through shared experiences and examples\n\n\n\n6:30 – 6:40 – 10-minute break\n\n\n\n6:40 – 7:05 – Assessing Family Strengths and Challenges – Introduction to genograms and ecomaps as assessment tools\n\n\n\n7:05 – 7:25 – Promoting Communication and Collaboration – Strategies for navigating conflict\, establishing shared goals\, and supporting family-centered care\n\n\n\n7:25 – 7:35 – Case Vignette & Group Discussion – Applying assessment tools and strategies to complex family dynamics\n\n\n\n7:35 – 7:40 – Key Takeaways\, Questions & Closing\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsor:\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Event Registration: In-Person Continuing Education Event: The Family Tapestry\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Address* \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n StateAlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Phone*Email*\n \n 2026 Photo consent formI agree to the photo release form belowI choose not to appear in photosI hereby grant to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America\, Inc. SUMMARY:Alzheimer’s Risk and Prevention
DESCRIPTION:General Course2 CE creditsLocation: LIVE\, Interactive Webinar \n\n\n\nCourse Description: Alzheimer’s disease affects over 7 million people in the United States. Alzheimer’s disease can destabilize a family and community. So how can we prevent this? Risk factors and prevention strategies remain confusing and misunderstood. Healthy living leads to healthy aging\, so join us as we discuss ways to change your life and help you live a lifestyle that prevents Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. This course is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions\, as well as case vignette discussions\, and a Q&A session at the end. \n\n\n\nFrom this course you will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nDiscuss different impacts of genetic and lifestyle factors on Alzheimer’s disease risk.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the general implications of the APOE genetic risk factor.\n\n\n\nList the major lifestyle risks that contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate how you would implement changes in your life to address any lifestyle risk factors.\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Description\n\n\n\n\n \n \n 2027 AFA Professional Training Webinar: Alzheimer’s Risk and Prevention\n \n \n 2 CE credits available for social workers licensed in an ASWB accredited state\, as well as New York State licensed social workers.
