Virtual Community Class: Art with Marnie

November 9, 2020 @ 2:30 pm EST

Join Marnie Herlands, MS, ART-BC, LCAT for a virtual art therapy session. During this virtual community art session, you will be led through a brief mindfulness practice and then experiment with printmaking. Mindfulness is a practice which involves being present in the moment and noticing your thoughts and feelings without judging or trying to change them, which can help us to feel calm and focused. Marnie will demonstrate the process of mono-printing with leaves keeping in mind that no two leaves or prints can be the same. As individuals we are alike in many ways but also unique in other ways. In addition to appreciating the joys of nature through our senses and art, you will also be invited to recollect memories and identify emotions and/or personal strengths that may surface during this experiential. For example, seeing brightly colored leaves may remind someone of their childhood and family road trips to the mountains.

No prior art making experience needed! Just bring yourself and the supplies: Leaves (from nature) in a variety of shapes and sizes, Heavyweight white paper or dark colored construction paper, Tempera or acrylic paints, A cut up sponge or paint brush, Pastels or colored pencils, Water and paper towels for clean up, A journal or blank paper (optional). Tip: Gather leaves ahead of time and store them flat in a zip lock bag with a damp paper towel to maintain freshness.

This virtual community class will take place on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/alzheimersfoundationofamerica.  Visit the page at the listed event date/time to take part.
