Virtual Community Class: Art with Marnie
October 20, 2021 @ 2:30 pm EDT
During this AFA Virtual Community Class, Marnie will guide you through an art experiential process which promotes fun, creative self-expression and spontaneity! Participants will be led through a brief mindful breathing practice and then invited to create art. First, we will choose and cut out (using scissors or tearing with your hands) one or more images from a magazine, recycled greeting card, or digital printed imagery to create a mixed media collage with. Then we will choose at least one image to alter, meaning to select and cut out one part of a picture to work with. Finally, we will arrange and glue down one or all images and complete the altered image using your creativity and imagination, as well as create a background if desired. The intention will be complete and transform an image to creatively explore it in a new way. Starting something new can be understood as a metaphor for transformation or personal growth and expansion (can be emotional, thought based/intellectual, energetic, etc.). Marnie will discuss suggested art materials and demonstrate this process! No prior art-making experience needed!
Just bring yourself and art supplies of your choosing:
- Heavyweight white paper or any sturdy paper (at least 9×12 in size if possible)
- Drawing materials – pencil, markers, pastels (cray-pas), and/or colored pencils
- Pre-cut images of your choosing – These can be found in a magazine, recycled greeting card covers, or on a computer or phone and printed out.
- Also, you may want to collect decorative, papers, motivational quotes, etc. if desired
- Glue stick
- Scissors (optional)
