November 2, 2021 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm EDT

Recent studies have shown there is a higher rate of Alzheimer’s disease among BIPOC, particularly African Americans and Latinos. This LIVE INTERACTIVE virtual workshop teaches social and cultural competency in dementia care while exploring the potential risk factors that increase the likelihood of dementia, especially from the effects of racial traumatic stress on the brain. This encompasses healthcare disparities, housing and food insecurity, and racial microaggressions experienced on a daily basis. Outcomes from the studies discussed exemplifies the need for additional research, and the development of specialized screening tools for racial trauma among older adults. This workshop is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions, as well as case vignette discussions, and a Q&A session at the end.   A complete course description, including objectives, agenda, speaker bio and cancellation policy, is available here. 2 continuing education (CE) hours from the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the New York State Education Department’s State Board of Social Work and Commission for Case Manager Certification are available.   Registration fee: $25 Click here to register   This program is approved by the National Association of Social Work (Approval #886446769-7112) for 2 continuing education contact hours.
