Care Connection Webinar: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Older Adults

July 9, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

About 15% of older adults have insomnia which is a persistent difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, waking earlier than intended or some combination of these sleep problems.  Geriatricians often warn that giving older adults sleep medication for long periods of time is not recommended because of their potential side effects including falls.  Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is a highly effective treatment for insomnia which unfortunately is not widely available.  In this presentation, Dr. Greg Hinrichsen will talk about how CBT-I is conducted and his experience of providing it over four years in the Martha Stewart Center for Living, the geriatric primary care practice at the Mount Sinai Hospital.

Guest Speaker:

Gregory A. Hinrichsen, Ph.D., ABPP

Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Adjunct Professor, Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology, Teachers College, Columbia University
