AFA’s Care Connection Webinar: Identifying and Treating Depression for the Older Adult

Service Program for Older People (SPOP) is one of the nation’s oldest organizations providing behavioral health and psychiatric services to adults over the age of 55. This presentation will focus on identifying clinical depression, the use of evidence based tools for older adults as well as best practices for ongoing treatment. Case studies will be utilized, as well as strategies from national behavioral health providers. The relationship between community based, case management and behavioral health partners will also be discussed.

Catherine Thurston is the Chief Program Officer at SPOP. In that role, she oversees the SPOP Clinic, community outreach and other program initiatives.  She has over 29 years of prior experience in geriatrics which includes serving as chief services officer at SAGE, service & advocacy for GLBT elders and as director of Alzheimer’s programs at the Cobble Hill Health Center. Catherine has served as adjunct faculty at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College since 2016.
