Special Fundraising Projects

AFA is fortunate to to work with people who use their talents to create unique works designed to help support the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.  Often, these projects are inspired by the creator’s own personal experiences with Alzheimer’s disease and were made as a way to give back to others facing similar challenges.  Proceeds from the sale of these works help AFA provide programs and services for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, support for caregivers and research towards a cure.  Some of these special projects, which are available to be purchased, are listed below.

1970 Camaro

The story behind the cause:

This vintage 1970 Chevy Camaro was a special project undertaken by PJ Davis, whose mother lived with Alzheimer’s disease for many years.  Channeling two huge passions in his life, his mother and automobiles, PJ devised a unique way to help other families affected by Alzheimer’s; he spent a year and a half rebuilding the classic car from scratch.   It has a black interior and exterior, a 454CI LS-7 eight cylinder engine, manual transmission and all new parts.  For a special touch, PJ added a teal racing stripe and teal-colored background on the dashboard instruments to reinforce the car’s connection to raising Alzheimer’s awareness.

Once completed, the car was donated to AFA, with the intent that it be sold and have all proceeds go to fund AFA’s programs and services.

“Lights of Hope”

The story behind the cause:

Acclaimed artist Blend Cota lost his mother several years ago to Alzheimer’s disease at the young age of 62.  While he was caring for her, he often used art as a therapeutic tool, giving him a way to “bring her back” to him, if even just for a few moments.  Blend’s desire to honor his mother’s memory and lend a helping hand to all those affected by Alzheimer’s led him to create “Light of Hope.”  Blend donated the painting, modeled off of AFA’s Light the World in Teal program, to help raise money for AFA’s programs and services.  Proceeds from the sale of “Light of Hope” will go towards funding AFA’s programs and services for families affected by Alzheimer’s.
