Alzheimer's Foundation of America

The Alzheimer's Foundation of America is a non-profit foundation comprised of member and associate member organizations across the U.S. dedicated to meeting the educational, social and emotional needs of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses, and their families and caregivers. AFA raises public awareness about the disease, lends expertise to healthcare professionals, and provides grants to nonprofit member organizations to enhance local services.

A national initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, the AFA Quilt to Remember is the nation's first dementia-related quilt of this grand a scale and will continually grow in size for years to come. Large and creative panels contributed by individuals and organizations remember and pay tribute to individuals with Alzheimer's disease or a related illness, caregivers and healthcare professionals. The AFA Quilt to Remember will tour the country on an ongoing basis.

Care Crossroads

Care Crossroads is an innovative, interactive “community of care” Web site that helps family caregivers meet other caregivers, learn about the brain disorder and connect “live” with experts. Among the site’s highly-versatile and unique features, AFA’s social workers are standing by 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern) Monday to Friday to respond to questions and concerns on caregivers’ own communication terms: online via Skype and live chat, as well as e-mail and phone calls to the organization’s toll-free hot line at 866-232-8484. Caregivers can meet other caregivers via a discussion board, “I Care” video stories and creative contributions.

Care Professionals

A division of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, Dementia Care Professionals of America is a membership organization for professionals caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, and their families. DCPA offers a unique training and qualification program.

Excellence in Care

Excellence in Care is a nationwide standard of excellence in care for dementia care settings developed by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. The program offers the opportunity for facilities to ensure that their dementia care settings meet the optimal care needs of their residents/clients, and consists of a comprehensive on-site evaluation and consultation on strategies to achieve the established standards for quality of care and to sustain performance.

From coast to coast, local organizations nationwide illuminate the night with hope…to remember the deceased and to honor individuals and their families coping with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses.

A national initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, National Memory Screening Day is a collaborative effort by organizations and health care professionals across the country to promote awareness and early detection of memory impairments. Free memory screenings are provided annually annually each November at thousands of sites throughout the U.S., with the goal of helping people identify initial signs of memory disorders and seek medical care to address potential problems.

Teens For Alzheimer's Awareness

With the help and guidance of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, teenagers work to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses. The goal is to educate and inform the public about Alzheimer's disease, provide support to teenagers with family members with this disease, and involve young people in awareness-raising activities.

For the Love of George

For the Love of George is a fundraising event benefiting the Alzheimer's Foundation of America that started in New York in 2005, and has spread to several major cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Palm Beach in the U.S. and Toronto, Canada. It is part of a national event that began as a tribute in honor of the grandfather of the founding New York Junior Committee co-chairs, and has grown over the last decade to honor the millions of individuals who have had or are living with Alzheimer's disease, and their families and caregivers.
